Classical Break is Somer Valley’s outing to the world of classical music. Programmes are usually themed and we also have recordings of local concerts and interviews with local people involved with the composition and performance of classical music.

Born in Cheltenham, Mike studied at Aberystwyth University and Ripon and York St. John College of H.E.
His degree, taken in easy stages, is in Life. Mike loves most forms of muisc, has perfect pitch and improvises on the piano.
Rupert Kirkham was born and brought up in Oxfordshire. At the age of 10 he joined New College choir in Oxford where he received much of his musical education
After graduating in Film and Television from Plymouth College of Art and Design, Rupert went on to work at Dartington Hall in Devon, where he ran a community video project for the employees of the Dartington Hall Trust. In 1975 he moved to Swindon Viewpoint, a community television and radio station, and was station manager from 1977 to 1980.
In the 1980’s he worked in a number of video production companies in the UK and USA as a producer of corporate and specialist videos and interactive media. He started his own company in 1989.
Rupert is married with 5 children and lives in Frome. “I think radio is a powerful medium and these community radio licenses can really hit the spot when it comes to knitting communities together and giving people a real voice.” he says.
