Classical Break with Rupert Kirkham and Mike Burrows

Classical Break is Somer Valley's outing to the world of classical music. Programmes are usually themed and we also have recordings of local concerts and interviews with local people involved with the composition and performance of classical music. If your choir, group, band or school wants to take part or make a Classical Break show, just let me know. Our newest producers are Peasedown residents Mike and Jayne Burrows, who produce every other Classical Break.

Classical Break can be heard online and on 97.5FM on Saturdays at 9 am and Sundays at 3pm, with an insomniac's edition at 1am Monday morning!

About Rupert
Rupert Kirkham

Rupert Kirkham was born and brought up in Oxfordshire. At the age of 10 he joined New College choir in Oxford where he received much of his musical education

After graduating in Film and Television from Plymouth College of Art and Design, Rupert went on to work at Dartington Hall in Devon, where he ran a community video project for the employees of the Dartington Hall Trust. In 1975 he moved to Swindon Viewpoint, a community television and radio station, and was station manager from 1977-80.

In the 1980's he worked in a number of video production companies in the UK and USA as a producer of corporate and specialist videos and interactive media. He started his own company in 1989.

Having volunteered for 3 months as producer of Classical Break, Rupert became station producer in November 2008. He divides his time between training new volunteers, setting up projects with community groups, producing station announcements and commercials and making his weekly Classical Break programme. "As a long-time advocate of the community broadcasting idea, I think these local radio licenses can really hit the spot when it comes to knitting communities together."
