5/9/2011: Somer Valley FM provides opportunities for all young people whether located locally, regionally or overseas. Ben Tomasino is a 17 year old High School student from Turin, Italy, who has just spent 2 weeks with the station.
He says, "I wanted to come for a radio working experience in England. This is a complete new experience for me because I have always studied how to make films and now I can learn about how audio works without visual. Radio is a very exciting medium."

About Somer Valley FM
Broadcasting online at www.somervalleyfm.co.uk and 97.5 Somer Valley FM is the community radio station serving the people of Norton Radstock and the surrounding district of North East Somerset.
Our mission is to enable as many people as possible to become familiar with the process and technology of radio broadcasting so that they can use it to speak to and interact with others in the local area, to inform, educate and entertain.
To that end, Somer Valley FM offers training and equipment, free of charge, to anyone who asks for it. We have 3 studios and several sets of portable equipment, an outside broadcast facility and experienced staff. Nearly 200 regular volunteer producers and presenters come together in a programme schedule that will appeal to just about everyone in the area, with a mix of music and speech, news and local interest features and what's on information. We're still working on this, and new programmes come on stream just about every week. We have tried to cater for people of all ages, creeds and races. This programme schedule runs all day and all night, with live broadcasts throughout the day and finishing late in the evenings. At weekends, we have live shows on Saturday and Sunday, and a chance to listen again to some of the programmes that have been transmitted over the previous week.
For community and not-for-profit organisations charities and groups in the area, we offer a free radio commercial production service - although you get involved in that process from the start.
For businesses, there are advertising and sponsorship opportunities to promote products and services. Advertising on our service, which can cost less than print advertising in the local papers, will get your message to up to 65,000 people in the area. Much of the finance needed to run the station comes from sponsorship and you can check out our sponsors on this website.
This website, which is up-dated daily, gives you all the information you need to follow our schedule and get involved with what the station is doing. To contact the station, call us on 01761 411755 or email us at
